There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Although rapper Snoop Dogg takes his name from the venerable Peanuts canine, the cartoon pooch he most closely resembles is actually Scooby-Doo. Both have unintelligible speaking voices. Snoop is an admitted weedhead; Scooby is addicted to psychotropic “snacks.” And now, Snoop, like Scoob, has started hanging out with a ragtag band of precocious white kids: The Doggfather, with the San Diego reggae/punk outfit Slightly Stoopid, is headlining this summer’s smoke-themed Blazed and Confused Tour. It’s a big deal for red-eyed Doggystyle fans to trek out to a far-flung venue and go through a security check just to hear “Gin & Juice” for the millionth time—it’d be a lot easier to stay home and get blistered while watching the Mystery Machine pull into yet another soon-to-be-shuttered amusement park. But spending an evening with Snoop is infinitely more fun. He’s got better music, of course, and instead of traveling around lamely putting a stop to minor crimes, he and his gang go city to city to encourage them.
THE PERFORMANCE BEGINS AT 6 P.M. AT MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION, 10475 LITTLE PATUXENT PARKWAY, COLUMBIA, MD. $39.50. (410) 715-5550.
