Antigoon
Where Spotted: Brasserie Beck, 1101 K St. NW
Price: $9/pint
Tall Drink: Antigoon was a mythical giant who terrorized Antwerp until Brabo the soldier cut his hands off, and yes, that’s him bleeding ribbons on the tap handle. His eponymous beer is more well-mannered, with an aroma of straw and Meyer lemon, a slight yeasty sweetness, and a spicy finish tempered by the metallic flavor of a dry-hopped beer.
Remember the Titans: The beer’s well-rounded flavors, particularly its dry finish, are good news for beer drinkers because Antigoon is Beck’s house beer. The restaurant commissioned it from Belgium’s Brouwerij de Musketiers, and if you’re asking a brewery for a custom recipe, you’d better buy more than one keg. So Antigoon will be around for a while, but it’s a session beer that will stand up to repeat visits.
