If: 1) Your last album was a double-disc concept LP about Nostradamus and 2) the story of your singer’s coming-out has lost all media currency, then you are in Judas Priest, and touring with Whitesnake is actually an upgrade. Because now you can be an unabashed nostalgia act, maybe even acknowledge your lateral role in Heavy Metal Parking Lot in the filmmaker’s hometown. However, Whitesnake has canceled due to a problem with David Coverdale’s throat! And no matter how much your twin-guitar leads inspired Night Ranger and a slew of other lesser, Aqua-Net drenched bands, if you fire up the deep cuts, they’ll be off getting hot dogs, or sharing stories about that one time they flashed Coverdale and he threw the devil horns back. So it must be hits: “Living After Midnight,” “Heading Out to the Highway,” “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” Let the purists whine. They will be back. And so will you. Possibly with Slaughter.
