There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
As the designated British correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, John Oliver is one of the program’s most consistently amusing contributors. And he recently made waves by signing a blind script deal with Paramount Studios, which suggests that Oliver’s astute wit needs no teleprompter. D.C. is clearly willing to take a chance on his standup prowess (the show recently sold out), but those without tickets can take solace on Netflix with last year’s Comedy Central special Terrifying Times, in which Oliver riffs on the failings of American foreign policy while mocking the impotence of the British Empire. It’s funny enough to excuse his ill-advised cameo in Mike Myers’ cinematic nervous breakdown, The Love Guru.
OLIVER PERFORMS AT 8:30 P.M. AT THE DC IMPROV, 1140 CONNECTICUT AVE. NW. SOLD OUT. (202) 296-7008.
