New York singer/songwriter/TV star/motivational speaker Andrew W.K. has not a cynical or insincere bone in his body. And no matter how many cyncial or incincere bones you have in yours, it’s hard not to get swept up by Andrew W.K.’s world view—which can be roughly characterized as, “Carpe Diem, Motherfuckers!” First gaining fame for his 2001 album I Get Wet—the one with the bloody cover that included the tracks “Party Hard,” “It’s Time to Party,” and “Party Til You Puke”—he went on to tour the country as a self-help guru and, more recently, to host the Cartoon Network show Destroy Build Destroy. The live action program features him leading teams of kids in competitions to blow up stuff using bazookas and rocket launchers (Seriously). W.K.’s brand new album is 55 Cadillac, a piano-based work that features songs he conceived and recorded spontaneously. And, as with everything he does, it sounds like a party.
Andrew W.K. performs at 8 P.M. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue, 600 I St. NW. $20–25. (202) 364-1919.
