Schneider Organic

Wiesen Edel-Weisse

Where Spotted: Pizzeria Paradiso, 2003 P St. NW

Price: $8/20oz.

Blossom of Whoa May You Bloom and Grow: Schneider originally created the Edel-Weisse to warm up Octoberfest drinkers, which means it’s heftier than their standard wheat beer. What separates this weisse from the chaff is its surprising hoppiness, courtesy of American cascade hops (think Sierra Nevada flavor). The cascades’ fresh orange aroma complements the beer’s banana notes in a more pleasant way than that fruit salad people dunk in their Blue Moon.

Leit Beer: Wheat beer fans looking to upgrade, Schneider is your brewery. To tide you over during your Lent fasting, snack on Aventinus, a dark brown wheat doppelbock with plum and fig notes. Or look for Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, a collaboration with Brooklyn Brewery that’s big yet balanced, like blasting a serene symphony on a sweet hi-fi. Thought wheat beer was just for Belgians? Think again, mein Freund.
