In this film by Pupi Avati, young Taddeo vies to become a regular at the Margherita Café, a cornerstone of life in Bologna, so he maneuvers his way into chauffering for Al, a leader of the group that congregates there. Through Al, Taddeo becomes privy to the travails of the cafés’ quirky regulars: a man who falls in love with a prostitute, an aspiring singer who suffers a cruel prank, a sex addict who is arrested for robbery, and others. There’s nothing suspenseful to the plot, no theme explored or life lesson learned. It’s just pure comedic fun.
