One of last year’s best records was Think About Life’s Family, a frenetically goofy collection of sample-heavy dance songs that tackled the basics, like the anguish of unrequited love and…wizards. Unlike its Montreal peers (Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire), Think About Life dials down the pompous, employing an influences-in-a-blender approach. Tracks like “Johanna” and “Havin’ My Baby” are perfect for dance-floor freak-outs, making the group’s appearance at DC9’s Liberation Dance Party an inspired choice. For those who get there early, that is: Think About Life will be warming the room up for the far less dynamic, but sure to be entertaining, synth-pop of Dragonette.
