For 21 years, the military’s top brass have joined Hollywood B-listers to pay tribute to our soldiers and veterans, and this National Memorial Day Concert is no different. While it may be odd to see Colin Powell and the joint chiefs of staff share a stage with Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise, both are longtime concert MCs, and, notably, supporters of programs for wounded troops. Joining them are Lionel Richie, Brad Paisley, Broadway performer Kelli O’Hara, gospel singer Yolanda Adams, the National Symphony Orchestra, and ceremonial bands of the five branches. Those battling beach traffic can still reflect on the sacrifices made by our armed forces, and consider opportunities to volunteer at Walter Reed hospital instead.
THE CONCERT BEGINS AT 8 P.M. ON THE CAPITOL’S WEST LAWN. FREE. GATES OPEN AT 5 P.M.
