The International VSA Festival’s Deaf Theater Jam invokes a certain great American hip-hop label, and indeed, there may be some beat-making going on: The program of short theater works combines American Sign Language, shadow play, and music. Sonics, however, clearly aren’t the main attraction. The fest is part of a week of arts events across the District featuring disabled artists of every stripe. At the jam, look for performances by Alexandria Wailes, a well-known deaf character actor; Fred Beam, who’ll perform parts of his one-man show Black, Deaf, Male: Who am I?; and Monique Holt, who teaches theater at Gallaudet University. Russell Simmons is not scheduled to appear.
DEAF THEATER JAM TAKES PLACE AT 7:30 P.M. AT THE LANSBURGH THEATER, 450 7TH ST. NW. FREE. (202) 547-1122.
