It seems implausible that any gallery would have a West of the Anacostia juried exhibition. Be that as it may, of the many juried shows this summer, “East of the River: 4th Annual Juried Exhibition” is among the strongest, and has a touch of the Renaissance to it. Ralston Cyrus’ portraits recall the sketches of old masters. Matthew Mann’s paintings evoke the landscapes of Early Renaissance works, particularly that of Bellini’s “St. Francis in the Desert.” And B.K. Adams’ paintings are distinct from his sculptures—he demonstrates a range extending beyond hoisting chairs onto poles in neglected urban spaces.
THE EXHIBITION IS ON VIEW NOON TO 5 P.M. TUESDAY TO FRIDAY AND 11 A.M. TO 5 P.M. SATURDAY TO SEPT. 10 AT HONFLEUR GALLERY, 1241 GOOD HOPE RD. SE. FREE. (202) 536-5994.
