There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Fine, so Corin Tucker went from Riot Grrrl to Riot Mom-With-Two-Kids. Her new solo record, on which she’s backed by Unwound’s Sara Lund and Golden Bears’ Seth Lorinczi, doesn’t jettison the raw energy that made Tucker a ’90s indie icon. Still, the former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman’s 1,000 Years sometimes softens the snarling edge Tucker’s known for with subtle, acoustic arrangements. That doesn’t mean Tucker is less sharp or biting, either aesthetically or thematically: She wrote several tracks for the latest Twilightmovie but decided to keep them for herself.
THE CORIN TUCKER BAND PERFORMS WITH HUNGRY GHOST AT THE BLACK CAT, 1811 14TH ST. NW. $15. (202) 667-4490.
