Since their formation in 1999 while some of their members were attending LSU, the Red Stick Ramblers have shown that Louisiana Cajun, western swing, and gypsy jazz aren’t just for the over-40 set, no matter how old these genres are. “We live pretty fast and hard,” says fiddler and vocalist Linzay Young on the band’s website. “We live life to its fullest. Then we pour that into our songwriting and our music.” On 2009’s My Suitcase Is Always Packed, that means the finger-snapping western swing of the title cut, the fast-tempoed Cajun two-step “Je T’aime Pas Mieux,” and the crying-in-their-beer country of “Drinking to You.” Hearkening back while not imitating the past, the Ramblers prove that some brisk fiddle and guitar is all you need to get folks to bridge the generational gap on the dance floor.
THE RED STICK RAMBLERS PERFORM AT 7:30 P.M. AT ARTISPHERE, 1101 WILSON BLVD., ARLINGTON. $15. (703) 875-1100.
