While Peaceoholics founder Ron Moten has drawn plenty of controversy, the only heated arguments arising from his annual Go-Go Awards and Hall of Fame Induction are the kind having to do with, say, which band deserved to win for best pocket. E-mail voting is open to anyone in categories like best rapper, best bounce beat band, and song of the year. Chuck Brown’s “Love,” featuring Jill Scott, will probably win in the last category, but I’m pulling for Kemistry’s “After Party,” with its funky bass, insistent cowbell, and high-emotional vocals. The awards show features performances by Backyard and Be’la Dona, and the hall of fame inductees include Sugar Bear of EU and Jungle Boogie of Rare Essence. Will guests quibble over award winners? Sure, but I doubt there’ll be a single butt in its seat during the conga jam session honoring Jungle Boogie.
THE EVENT TAKES PLACE AT 7 P.M. AT THE LINCOLN THEATRE, 1215 U ST. NW. $40-$60. (202) 328-6000.
