There aren’t a lot of places open Christmas Day for those who want to escape the house. While Jews may go out for Chinese food and a movie, for a second year, the Black Cat is offering a different option, the James Brown Death-mas Bash. The Hardest Working Man in Show Business died four years ago today; local DJ Soul Call Paul honors him by bringing to life Brown’s funky catalogue. Expect Paul to play some of the Godfather of Soul’s three holiday albums, recently reissued as The Complete James Brown Christmas. Death-mas just wouldn’t be complete without listening to “Go Power At Christmas Time” and “Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto.”
THE JAMES BROWN DEATH-MAS BASH TAKES PLACE AT 9:30 P.M. AT THE BLACK CAT BACKSTAGE, 1811 14TH ST. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960.
