City Paper is not for tourists
It’s probably pretty rare that you don an elaborate suit for pleasure rather than business. Unless you’re into cosplay, that is. Whether you’re into dressing like Sailor Moon or Ryuji Hirasaka, costume enthusiasts of all kinds should feel right at home at Katsucon. Programming at the 17th annual anime convention includes comic drawing and origami workshops, discussions on high-falutin’ topics like the objectification of women in video games, and lots of film screenings. Or, if the cosplayer in your life drags you to Katsucon, you can check out the local comedians of the Geek Comedy Tour or, believe it or not, go ballroom dancing. Whatever you’re there to do, count on no one judging you.
KATSUCON TAKES PLACE FROM NOON FRIDAY TO 3 P.M. SUNDAY AT THE GAYLORD NATIONAL HOTEL AND CONVENTION CENTER, 201 WATERFRONT ST., OXON HILL. $20-$100. (301) 965-4000.
