Even if you don’t follow Norwegian electronica, chances are you’ve heard the downtempo duo Röyksopp. In addition to being a staple of hip coffee shops, the group’s hit “Remind Me” was the only redeeming feature of GEICO’s caveman commercials. Though Röyksopp’s tunes are often appropriated as sonic wallpaper, its live shows are downright raucous. The two musicians dance, sing, leap into the crowd, and sometimes don elaborate costumes—all while twiddling the knobs of their Korg keyboards. The duo’s high-energy remixes aren’t just for show:They give listeners a fresh take on Röyksopp standards and a new appreciation for the music’s understated complexity.
Röyksopp performs with Jon Hopkins at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. Sold out. (202) 265-0930.
