Indie and post-rock bands have been on the Afro-pop tip for a few years now; leave it to D.C. to produce numerous groups willing to plumb, say, Ghanian highlife’s math-rock side. In contrast to similar-sounding peers like Hume and Buildings, Connect the Dots (La La Lala) can get pretty playful, and not just because the duo’s name comes from a Pee Wee Herman gag. The band softens acrobatic guitar builds with chimes and (what else?) la-la-la refrains. Connect the Dots also seems to have a thing for musical children’s toys (note the farm noises that tickle “Animals”), but eschews the art-punk skronk that usually accompanies that affinity. Consider bringing your kids.

Connect The Dots (La La Lala) performs with Gobble Gobble and FMRM at 8 p.m. at Red Palace, 1210 H St. NE. $8. (202) 399-1201.
