In 2010, a brand-new sound in jazz was born as The Brass-A-Holics brass band, and the go-go funk genre joined the ranks of the time-honored traditions, culture and jazz music that have come out of the great city of New Orleans. The eight-piece ensemble incorporates the core New Orleans brass elements augmented by a full drum set, percussion, keyboard, and electric guitar. This go-go brass funk jazz octet comes to life before your eyes and ears. The Brass-A-Holics have transcended the traditional world of brass band music; where else can you hear Miles Davis, Nirvana, John Coltrane, Wham, Cyndi Lauper, Kanye West, and Louis Armstrong all in one set? The Brass-A-Holics was conceived by renowned trombonist Winston Turner, whose roots stem from the St. Augustine High School Marching 100, the Jr. Pinstripe Brass Band, the Southern University Human Jukebox, and the Soul Rebels Brass Band. He pioneered the go-go brass funk jazz genre by merging jazz and the unrivaled New Orleans brass sound with Washington DC’s go-go groove, topping off this instrumental gumbo with a personal touch of keys and strings. Although there are differences in culture, style, and swagger within the octet, The Brass-A-Holics collectively bring a unique, intoxicating sound that captivates audiences.
Winston Turner, trombone; Tannon Williams, trumpet; Jason “Slick” Slack, bass horn; Robin “Thick” Clabby, saxophone; Matt Clark, guitar; Keiko Komaki, keyboard; Ricky Caesar, drums; Dwayne Muhammad, percussion.
