Looking for an opportunity to get a taste of Juggalo culture without being completely surrounded by Juggalos? It’s not easy. Most of the time, it’s kind of an all-or-nothing thing. But this Kittie show at Jaxx might be the ticket. The all-female Canadian metal band has been around since the late ’90s, coming to prominence with an alt-rock-meets-thrash sound (remember “Brackish,” anybody?) that later evolved into something more brutal and more classically dark. Consequently, the band has its own non-Juggalo fan base. But lately Kittie has been connecting with Insane Clown Posse crowds, first through a 2010 package tour and then at this year’s Gathering of the Juggalos festival. So the Jaxx audience may well have a few ninjas in the mix. One thing is for sure, though: Vocalist/guitarist Morgan Lander—with her deep growls, no-nonsense stage presence, and headbanging sidewomen—is nobody’s clown.
Kittie performs with Dirge Within and Diamond Plate at 6 p.m. at Jaxx, 6355 Rolling Road, Springfield. $17 in advance, $20 day of show.
