Jenn Wasner seems like a swell Baltimore citizen. While her band Wye Oak was on the rise, she accepted an invitation to meet Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley—so he could show them Maryland’s famed Wye Oak desk. On tour, Wye Oak likes to bring other Baltimore bands along for the ride; last year, Wasner lent her voice to “The Great Fire,” a track on the latest album from Baltimore’s Future Islands; and tonight, yet another Baltimore act, Other Colors, opens for Wasner’s side band, Flock of Dimes. That newish project trades in hazy, low-key atmospheres with fewer rock-out moments than her main band. The low fidelity might just be a product of the demo process, but it also lends itself to her cover of The Eagles’ “I Can’t Tell You Why,” which sounds like chillwave via Sade. It’s a sharp left turn, but like that chanteuse once sang, Wasner’s fans are bound to stay by her side.
Flock of Dimes plays with Other Colors and Foul Swoops at 8 p.m. at Black Cat Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $10. blackcatdc.com. (202) 667-7960.
