Just about any New York-based company on tour in D.C. is going to feature amazing dancers, such is the huge talent pool in that city. But the Brian Brooks Moving Company takes that whole dancer-as-athlete thing a little further. Dubbed a “movement invention wonk,” Brooks has his company members perform wildly unusual physical feats, like hopping on one leg for an entire piece, flying through the air and landing helplessly on other dancers, or walking on one another. Don’t expect subtle emotions: Brooks is all about the physicality.
