From grand guignol to gut-wrenching gore, the Spooky Movie International Horror Festival has become D.C.’s premier destination for midnight movie aficionados. Shifting locations from Arlington’s Artisphere back to the AFI Silver Theatre, Spooky Movie boasts 50 films, screened over nine nights in October. This year’s lineup includes a smattering of festival favorites as well as some highly anticipated features from filmmakers all around the globe. Among the highlights are Resolution, a visceral, eerie, and terrific horror/comedy that had its world premier at the Tribeca Film Festival last spring, and Chained, the Vincent D’Onofrio-starring serial killer flick directed by Jennifer Lynch—daughter of David Lynch—that was recently slapped with an NC-17 rating. That’s a horror filmmaker’s badge of honor.
