The mock pundit and host of The Colbert Report has penned another dictum on the state of the union, detailing such misfortunes as an “Apologist-in-Chief” for president and the lack of a phone button specifically for the spa at the Los Angeles Four Seasons. America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t takes all the bombastic opinions that Colbert blurts out on TV and puts them down on paper, tossing in lots of pictures and even a personal pair of 3D glasses. Mocking the idea of American exceptionalism, Colbert tackles the economy and healthcare in his trademark satirical style. Considering his penchant for theatrics—case in point: founding a SuperPAC and trying to get on the South Carolina presidential ballot—and skepticism of truth, Colbert should consider relocating to Washington. Whether he’ll be in character when he signs copies of his new book at Politics & Prose is unclear, but it’s worth finding out.
