Artistic talent tends to run in the family: Music has the Jacksons and the Avetts, acting has the Barrymores and the Baldwins, and the lists go on. Literary Washington has the Foers: Joshua, Jonathan, and Franklin, three brothers who have produced very different bestselling books. Middle brother Jonathan is the best known, having written the acclaimed novels Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Little brother Joshua wrote 2011’s Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything, while eldest brother Franklin edits The New Republic and is the author of How Soccer Explains the World. All acclaimed writers and speakers in their own rights, they speak together for the first time tonight at a lecture sponsored by their alma mater, Georgetown Day School. For the most part, they’ll discuss their crafts and how they write, but the talk should also offer some insight into what makes each brother tick. It’s a safe bet that some familial ribbing is in order.
