Did the first two weeks of December fly by in a blur of shopping and yuletide schmoozing? Did you miss a chance to see The Nutcracker because you had to attend yet another lame holiday soirée? Then you may be ready to sit back, relax, and let Signature Theatre’s third annual “ Holiday Follies” entertain you. As has become a tradition in Arlington, the casual cabarets, helmed by piano man Gabriel Mangiante, give local musical-theater stars a chance to belt or bellow their holiday favorites. The setlist varies each night, but expect classic carols to be offset by rarities like “Ugly Sweater” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” This year’s vocalists are led by Helen Hayes Award winner Eleasha Gamble, best known for her stint as Laurey in Arena Stage’s Oklahoma. Also singing: Signature regulars Bobby Smith, James Gardiner, and Rachel Zampelli. Arrive early enough to grab a drink at Ally’s Bar. Then pull up a chair and enjoy the party, no forced schmoozing required. “
Holiday Follies” runs to Dec. 23 at Signature Theatre, 4200 Campbell Ave., Arlington. $41. (703) 820-9771. signature-theatre.org.
