While New York and New Jersey braced for Hurricane Sandy, District residents reacted to a much weaker version of the superstorm by trying to become memes. The most successful was Bloomingdale resident Jimmy Kruyne, who spotted a TV camera crew in his neighborhood while Sandy churned away off the Delaware coast and was lucky enough to have a horse head mask around his house. Putting on the mask and a pair of shorts, Kruyne catapulted a brief appearance in the backdrop of a local news report into short-lived Internet fame. His only regret, he said later? Not working out more in the days before his shirtless body was streamed nationwide.
