If you’re unlike me, and you don’t desire to spend the most overblown night of the year in your sweatpants pounding cheap bubbly, you’ve got options. Are you a Wizards fan who’s missing point guard/supposed messiah John Wall? For $40, you can ring in the New Year with the man himself at Bar 7’s Aristocrat New Year’s Eve party. If you’re more into sequins and feathers, stop by The Dunes for its costume disco—called Mighty Real after Sylvester’s 1978 disco hit—and shake your tail to tunes spun by DJs vANNIEty Kills, Alex DB, and Wolfblister. Also in town is everyone’s favorite late night band, The Roots. They probably won’t play their cover of “Call Me Maybe,” but don’t worry: Their originals, though slightly less ubiquitous, are much easier on the ears.
The Aristocrat New Year’s Eve begins at 8 p.m. at Bar 7, 1015 ½ 7th St. NW. $40–$75. (202) 347-4343. bar7dc.com. Mighty Real begins at 9 p.m. at The Dunes, 1402 Meridian Place NW. $15-$25. mightyreal2013.eventbrite.com. The Roots perform with Roc Marciano at 9 p.m. at the Fillmore, 8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring. $75. (301) 960-9999. fillmoresilverspring.com.
