Despite endless clamoring from fans, Blake Schwarzenbach maintains that there’s no Jawbreaker reunion on the horizon. Why? In interviews, he’s said he’s unprepared to do justice to those songs again. He’s found another excuse recently: Now, he’s too busy writing, recording, and touring with his latest band, forgetters—irreverently spelled without the capital F. Born out of the ashes of Schwarzenbach’s short-lived project, The Thorns of Life, forgetters play a particular brand of post-hardcore that teases its pop-punk and emo upbringing while still trying to grow up and try something new. Schwarzenbach belts his signature desperate, matter-of-fact lyrics over jangly, driving post-punk melodies tinged with psych rock. But even with the recent 20th anniversary reissues of the Bivouac LP and the Chesterfield King EP, what are the chances forgetters will play a song from Schwartzenbach’s Jawbreaker days? Slim to none.
forgetters performs with Typefighter and The Rememberables at 8:30 p.m. at DC9, 1940 9th St. NW. $10. (202) 483-5000. dcnine.com.
