Why is it taking so long to repave Sherman Avenue NW?
“The main reason it’s taking longer than we anticipated is we had some utility delays,” says District Department of Transportation spokesman John Lisle, who says the work is not a simple repaving but a “complete reconstruction of the roadway.” When the city tears up a street, it gives utility companies an opportunity to make improvements underground. In this case, Pepco and Washington Gas are both doing work, and it’s taking longer than expected. Final paving, Lisle says, is due sometime in February.
