Don’t hate Benoit & Sergio for making it look so easy: The two house-music makers radiate the kind of leisurely, I’m-on-a-boat, what-of-it? chill-bro ennui that might make working-class house practitioners tear off in search of even the lowest quality Trax Records 12-inch. Lyrics about ketamine? Benoit & Sergio have done that. Deep-V T-shirts? They’ve got ’em in every color. Blazers and sunglasses that look pinched from the set of an ’80s financial thriller? Mandatory! But queue up Benoit & Sergio’s two fabulous recent EPs, A Bridge So Far and New Ships, and you’ll probably find a hell of a lot to love: Smarter than almost anything you’ll hear in Echostage’s big room and not lacking a sense of humor, both EPs encapsulate Benoit & Sergio’s sneaky charm. Those old Chicago references are there—they’re just dressed up in a skinny suit.
Benoit & Sergio perform live with DJs Solomon Sanchez and Brian Billion at 10 p.m. at U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW. Free before midnight for 21-plus. $10 otherwise. (202) 588-1880. ustreetmusichall.com.
