In 2006, an army private is honorably discharged from the military and returns home to Texas. Why, then, does he find himself in a military prison, accused of horrendous war crimes? Playwright Bill Cain draws on Dante’s Inferno to explain this story in his play 9 Circles, which makes its area debut at Forum Theatre this month. It’s not clear if Private Reeves knows why he’s on trial, and he won’t say if he’s as unsure about the claims as everyone else; Reeves’ pastor, lawyer, and the public all believe something different about his situation. Since the work is inspired by real events, audiences will likely share in the outrage and confusion.$15-$25.
