Comedians are philosophers, but few philosophers are comedians. Duncan Trussell, the stand-up and podcast host, is one of the few with the ability to analyze the human condition and make his humor rise to the realm of dharma. Trussell became increasingly well-known through regular appearances on fellow comedian Joe Rogan’s popular podcast, where they dialogued on inner and outer space, psychedelics, and all the weird phenomena that composes humanity. Trussell’s own podcast waxes on his foibles, fallibilities, and family problems—a recent episode featured his dying mother. And don’t think Trussell is Nietzsche with japes; his “Drunk History” episode on Funny Or Die—where he drinks a six-pack of beer and a half bottle of absinthe before trying to discuss the inventions of scientist Nikola Tesla—is so ridiculous it’d have the Buddha laughing.
Duncan Trussell performs at 7:30 p.m. at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse, 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington. $20. (703) 486-2345. arlingtondrafthouse.com.
