Mount Kimbie’s debut album, Crooks & Lovers, charmed with its bedroom-studio feel. The random vocal chops. The muddy procession of stilted drums that somehow fell into place. Crooks’ hypnotic fluidity could keep your finger near the rewind button—or your feet on the dance floor. Kimbie’s new album, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, clearly works with a bigger budget, but it retains a tight grip on the band’s trademark watery electro-pop. Don’t call ’em sellouts; Mount Kimbie just got a bigger bedroom.
