If you don’t regularly spend time with humans under the age of 10, the last time you watched puppetry might have more than a decade ago. Studio Theatre toys with the form in Wakka Wakka Production’s magical, bizarre Baby Universe. As civilization lies on its deathbed, the puppet planets have abandoned hope. Now, a government program attempts to create an infant universe: a planet, nursed by an aging spinster, that can support a new population. The baby universe must combat the conspiring Moon and Sun, which attempt to destroy human civilization once and for all. Not that Earth seems to care. “I don’t care about my people,” she says. “I’ve been trying to kill them for years.” Written and directed by Wakka Wakka members Kirjan Waage and Gwendolyn Warnock, the production combines the best elements of both An Inconvenient Truth and The Muppets.

The production runs June 26 to July 14 at Studio Theatre, 1501 14th St., NW. $39. (202) 332-3300. studiotheatre.org.
