Rookies tend to fade into the background on Saturday Night Live; if they weren’t included in the credits, you might not notice them. But Cecily Strong broke out playing the Weekend Update panelist “The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party.” Her slurred speech, Smartphone-checking, and condescending yet uninformed moralisms (“There are high school students who can’t even point out India on a map of Africa,” she crows) ape the behavior of a well-intentioned George Washington University freshman after a few rum and cokes. But don’t come to her show expecting a couple of hours of mock-drunk one liners: She’s just as entertaining portraying clueless voters or Princess Jasmine. Strong honed her comedy chops performing with improv troupes Second City and iO Chicago Theater, and she tends to work better in a group. So on this tour, she’s bringing a few friends with her. And since three of her four performances start before 8 p.m., you’ll still be able to make it out to a party. Just steer clear of the inane cocktail chatter.

Cecily Strong performs at 7:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Friday and 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse, 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington. $15–$20. (703) 486-2345. arlingtondrafthouse.com
