In D.C., artists seem to always be working on multiple projects. Take Joy Buttons. The aggro punk band, which came together last August, includes guitarist Ryan McLaughlin of the rootsy folk-punk act Typefighter and indie-rock group Pash, vocalist Brandon Moses of mellow pop-rock band Paperhaus and the tweaked-soul/rock group Laughing Man, drummer and former Pray for Polanksi member Dan Ramspacher, and guitarist Erik Sleight of Lightfoot and Mittenfields. None of these guys is known for wailing guitar riffs or blood-flecked screaming, but when they play together, that’s what they deliver. Bring a picnic to the band’s show at Fort Reno, but don’t get mad if someone stage-dives into your vegan potato salad. Punk happens.
Joy Buttons perform with Thundermilk and The Obsessives at 7:15 p.m. at Fort Reno Park. Free. fortreno.com.
