AlunaGeorge presented one of the year’s strongest debuts in Body Music, an album of blippy, futuristic pop tracks that’s as pleasing as it is forward-thinking. Sure, the English duo isn’t the first group to transport R&B hooks and electronic snare hits to otherworldly territory, but Aluna Francis and George Reid display confidence and nuance that most rookies can’t maintain on their first LP. Body Music functions as an album of standalone singles, but that’s hardly a fault: Notable moments include the hazy swagger of “You Know You Like It,” and “Lost and Found,” which sounds like an alien remix of a Lily Allen track. From the engineering to the songwriting, the album can come across as excessively professional, but it’s hypnotic enough to not sound overcooked.
AlunaGeorge performs with Supreme Cuts at 9 p.m. at U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW. $15. (202) 588-1800. ustreetmusichall.com.
