Ten years is an eternity in electronic music. The adventurous dubstep of yesterday is the stultifying brostep of today, and while you were pondering the artistic merits of the wub-wub, six new subgenres cropped up to claim their own club nights. That’s why Expansion Broadcast’s decade of mixes is worth celebrating: DJs affiliated with the D.C.-based website, run by Erictronica (Eric Masiello), have steadfastly tracked all the microdevelopments in deep-bass music and collated them into more than 500 podcasts for your edutainment. For its 10th anniversary party, Expansion imports Holland-born, London-based tech-funk producer Icicle to light the candles on its cake. The man is a scientist behind the synths—seriously, he studied engineering in college—and his dark but vibrant music has the ability to attack your frontal lobe and your rear end.

Icicle performs with D-Fect, Erictronica, Refugee, Whighzeguy, and Tsurugi at U Street Music Hall, 1115 U St. NW. $10. (202) 588-1880. ustreetmusichall.com.
