What better way to celebrate Andy Warhol’s 85th birth year than showing the movie about the woman who almost didn’t let him get to his 40th? The 1996 flick I Shot Andy Warhol stars Lili Taylor as Valerie Solanas, a radical feminist who wrote a screenplay that she wanted the pop artist to produce. Warhol declined, so Solanas shot him on June 3, 1968. Warhol might have appreciated that this surreal event was made into a movie. As he wrote in The Philosophy of Andy Warhol : “People sometimes say that the way things happen in movies is unreal, but actually it’s the way things happen in life that’s unreal.”
