The original Herb & Dorothy documentary is a rare mixture of winsome filmmaking and edifying modern-art talk, namely about the massive collection that New York civil servants Herb and Dorothy Vogel built over several decades and then gave away. Director Megumi Sasaki’s sequel, Herb & Dorothy 50×50 , tracks the process, per the Vogels’ wishes, of distributing 2,500 pieces of the collection across museums in all 50 states. Herb died last year, but Dorothy lives on, and their collection has lifetimes’ worth of stories left in it.
