D.C.’s annual experimental music festival started in 2001 to offer a stage to composers either at the margins of the contemporary classical scene or off the page entirely. But it’s since broadened into a safe space for weirdos of all stripes. Previous years have seen Dutch noise artist Odal performing in nothing but a hockey mask and duct tape; this year includes filmmaker James Schneider’s documentary on Chilean band Panico, French electro-rock guru Richard Pinhas, “no-fi” band The Molecules, and drone devotee Jim Adams’ new project BLK TAG, among many others you’ve certainly never heard of.
