Neko Case is a badass. Not just for titling her recent album The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You. Not just for her lyrics, which tackle everything from gentrification in Seattle to Moby Dick. Not just because she’s turned out lovely, thoughtful covers of songs by Tom Waits, Neil Young, Loretta Lynn, and Hank Williams. Oh no! The powerful-throated alt-country singer and songwriter also kicks ass because she has guest-voiced on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. She was banned for life from the Grand Ole Opry for removing her shirt during a show (it was a Tennessee July and she was playing near a barbecue pit). And she has a tattoo of the title of “Scorned as Timber, Beloved of the Sky,” an Emily Carr painting from 1935. Neko Case, never quit fighting; there are so many more asses out there for you to kick.
