No, no, James Murphy won’t perform with his old LCD Soundsystem bandmates at 9:30 Club tonight. Since ending that dance-rock outfit with a final 2011 concert at Madison Square Garden, Murphy has been busy with other things—producing Arcade Fire’s upcoming album, building a 50,000-watt sound system, composing music for the upcoming Broadway production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, and, um, crafting his own espresso blend. When he DJs for the late-night crowd on V Street NW tonight, Murphy’s selections will likely reflect his music-geek tendencies: He’ll probably serve up ample joyous electro and old-school disco, and chances are strong that he’ll toss in some classic R&B and melancholy post-punk, too. But who the hell knows: By night’s end, Murphy may even indulge in a sing-along to LCD’s staying-up-all-night-with-pals anthem, “All My Friends.” James Murphy DJs with Will Eastman at 11 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $40.
