The Phillips Collection, the nation’s first museum of modern art, has a long history of shaping the public conversation regarding art and culture. The museum is now developing its forthcoming programming and exhibitions around “a global conversation through the language of art,” from art’s ability to create social change to the politics of exhibitions. “The Culture of Power/The Power of Culture, ” a daylong forum featuring conversations with art professionals, policymakers, and experts in international relations, jumpstarts the discussion. Co-hosted by the Phillips Collection and Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, the event includes panels on topics ranging from the politics of urban culture to art’s role in citizenship. The museum’s current exhibit, “Pakistani Voices,” which features work by students and emerging artists, addresses similar themes and serves as an organizing idea for the event. By the end of the day, you may be inspired to take in one of D.C.’s many artistic institutions. The forum begins at 10 a.m. at the Phillips Collection, 1600 21st St. NW. $18–$30.
