For the cultural consumer in search of decent nightlife, the evenings between Christmas and New Year’s Eve can be a bummer. Arts venues wind down their programming or stick to holiday chestnuts; sitting at home watching It’s a Wonderful Life loses its appeal after the 25th viewing. Tonight, at least, local comedian Jenn Tisdale has you covered: She’s gathered a host of funny people for a free show at Wonderland Ballroom. Virginia native Hampton Yount (shown) headlines, with a series of jokes about ominous political ads, sex education, and the particular creepiness of the McDonaldland gang. Young upstarts Tim Kish and Nik Oldershaw provide commentary on fast food and ’90s movies, and Andrew Bucket MCs. So go ahead, grab your returning friends from high school and some eggplant fries, and let someone else make you laugh tonight. It’s the best free entertainment in town. The show begins at 7 p.m. at Wonderland Ballroom, 1101 Kenyon St. NW. Free. (202) 232-5263. thewonderlandballroom.com.
