In addition to their traditional salsa arrangements, expect New York’s Los Hacheros to bring along a fair amount of joy when they perform at Atlas Performing Arts Center. It’s nearly impossible not to smile when watching a video of the ensemble performing “Pilon” for students at a Harlem elementary school. And while the group has only been performing together since 2011, its solid arrangements and lively original songs have impressed old-school salseros and young music fans alike. By combining traditional instruments like tres guitar and congas with saxophones and a touch of jazz flute, the six-member band amplifies its sound to mimic an orchestra twice its size. To their performance tonight, remember to wear comfortable shoes. Standing still when Los Hacheros perform just doesn’t happen. Los Hacheros perform at 9 p.m. at Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H St. NE. $15–$20. (202) 399-7993. atlasarts.org.
