Some readers have reported strange occurrences in the area this past week. They say it sounded like angels, or maybe show promoters, speaking in hushed, excited tones about an upcoming live performance of a podcast called “Welcome to Night Vale.” Some report the voices say the show takes place in the fictional desert town of Night Vale, a place rife with strange lights, secret police, and demonic presences. The powers that be say there’s nothing of that nature going on there, especially not on Tuesday night. But they do urge readers to stay away from the Lincoln Theatre at that time, lest they be exposed to a podcast that author and blogger Gavia Baker-Whitelaw called “somewhere between Weird Twitter and ‘Tales of the Unexplained.’” The powers that be also remind readers to ignore rumors that the show has a 5-star rating on iTunes, or that it’s consistently the No. 1 rated comedy podcast in the digital store. Still, if any brave souls plan to investigate on their own, they’d better bring $25, and notify the powers that be before they arrive. Or don’t—the powers that be say they’ll know where you are either way. The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre, 1215 U St. NW. $25. (202) 888-0050. thelincolndc.com.
