The hip-hop community was leveled by the Notorious B.I.G.’s murder on March 9, 1997 at the age of 24. Equally adored for his charisma as he was for the gritty honesty of his music, he’s inspired numerous tributes in the years since his death. Tonight, a day after the 17th anniversary of his murder, the Howard Theatre will host a tribute to Biggie. Protegé Lil Cease will anchor the event, which will feature performances by All the Best Kids, as well as artist and activist Asheru. A host of other artists will also perform their own renditions of revered classics from the rapper’s catalog, giving thanks Big Poppa in the process. This celebration of his life and music featuring performances by fellow fans should take the crowd on a fond trip down memory lane and inspire numerous sing-alongs. The performance begins at 8 p.m. at Howard Theatre, 620 T St. NW. $15. (202) 803-2899. thehowardtheatre.com.
