“Only God can judge me,” 2Pac boasted on the track of the same name. For Judas Iscariot in Forum Theatre’s latest production, that’s unfortunately not the case. In the darkly comic play The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, a selection of jurors gathers somewhere between heaven and hell to decide the fate of Jesus’ betrayer. Among the witnesses testifying to help determine Judas’ outcome: Caiaphas, the Jewish high priest who developed the plot to kill Jesus; Mother Teresa; and Freud, who tries to psychologically determine whether Judas feels any remorse about what he did. The jurors must then determine if there’s any reasonable explanation for the betrayal. And though Jesus pleads with Judas to forgive himself and ascend to heaven, he won’t let go that easily. Was Judas just misunderstood the whole time? That’s up for the jurors (and viewers) to decide. The play runs May 22 to June 14 at Forum Theatre at Round House Theatre, 8641 Colesville Road, Silver Spring. $20–$25. (240) 644-1390. forum-theatre.com.
